I know because I watched the whole live coverage via TV Patrol last Monday night. Ted Failon was talking to Ron Gagalac who had taken cover behind a tree meters away from the bus on one hand and to Julius Babao who was stationed at the Quirino Grandstands on the other.
TV Patrol’s cameras provided multiple angles of the bus. I saw every movement of the three assault teams who stormed the bus thanks to TV Patrol’s live, blow-by-blow coverage.
So when ABS-CBN came out with a statement on the Aug 23 hostage tragedy and said:
7. After the assault began, we tried to limit our shots to avoid showing police movements. We stayed with extreme close-ups or wide shots.
Written in safe language right? But they’re not fooling anyone. They said they ‘tried’ but we know the truth. We’ve seen it on TV. Is this the way ABS-CBN exercises self-restraint? If so, then the PNP is not the only institution in need of reform.
